This is a wonderful story of a journalist supposedly on vacation who couldn't resist the attraction of the real life in the Caribbean. He met and traveled with interesting men who were remnants of a time after WWII where smuggling and adventure were the norm. His vivid descriptions of the area, the people and the hurricane he survived earned him a literary Prix de Londres om 1958. Had his life not been cut short by the Khmer Rouge in 1970, he would have continued to accurately record extraordinary events in his world. This book is to be read more than once to grasp it's depth and meaning.
