This book is very hard to review. There were parts I really enjoyed but a lot of the book really dragged. I feel like there was a lot of things I didn't understand, a lot of underlying messages that weren't very clear. I liked the story about the author & his son. I liked some of his Chautauqua's, but many of them were hard to follow. I can't really recommend it. But what do I know. It was a huge seller & has a cult like following. There is probably something there I just don't happen to see it.

I enjoyed how the author wove his Motorcycle trip, the relationship with his son, pursuing a state of quality, and his illness. There were times I was merely waiting to get through it as well. Not incredibly gripping but, thoughtful with enjoyable insights. Read full review

Hard to read (deep philosophy and scientific dissection of reasoning), but definitely worth a read if you're into that. Read full review

Pirsig speaks about the meaning of quality in our existence. I was hoping it focused more about spirituality but I enjoyed it overall. I definitely took away his themes and gained knowledge of his perspective. Read full review

Good book but a lot of the philosophy motifs where over my head. I expected a lot more time to be spent talking about the father son bond and the road trip. Read full review

Second time through it seemed dated and pretentious. Let's call it an Eastern-sensitive but ultimately Sophist route. His position has some affinities with a Peircan/Jamesian pragmatism. Read full review

Meh. I liked that much of it took place in Montana and I enjoyed his thoughts on how we approach our lives (motorcycles). While it kept my interest and made valuable points, it just never grabbed me either. Read full review

This was the first book of this nature I had ever read and, while I did find it I be quite a jarring experience, I thoroughly enjoyed following this man through his journey of self-enlightenment. It's ... Read full review
