Helen Steiner Rice, 1900 - 1981 Poet Helen Steiner Rice was born May 19, 1900 in Lorain, Ohio. She married Franklin Rice, a banker, in 1928, who then died in 1932. She then took her first job at Lorain Electric Light & Power Company and went on to work for the Gibson Greeting Cards Company. She wrote poetry for greeting cards for forty years. Some of her poetry collections published were "Someone Cares" (1972), "Somebody Loves You" (1976), "And the Greatest of These is Love" (1980), "Celebrations of the Heart" (1987), "Blossoms of Friendship" (1992), "A Book of Courage" (1996), and "Heart Gifts From Helen Steiner Rice: A Special Selection of Her Poems and a Pen Portrait of Her as a Person" (1968). On April 23, 1981, Helen Steiner Rice died after a long illness in Cincinnati, Ohio.
