About the author (2003)

Stevens won his first Kentucky Derby at age 25. He was known for his razor sharp analysis of his ride and his horses's performance after every race.He continues to travel to every major horse track in the world.

Bill Shoemaker retired as a jockey in 1990, after winning a record 8,833 races. He continues to work as a trainer on the Southern California circuit. His previous novels in the Coley Killebrew series are Stalking Horse and Fire Horse.
