Suraiya Faroqhi is professor of Ottoman history at Istanbul Bilgi University and the author of "The Ottoman Empire and the World around it" and "Artisans of Empire." She has edited "The""Cambridge History of Turkey," "Volume 3.

She teaches German language & literature at Rutgers University.
