Extraordinary People in Extraordinary Times: Heroes, Sheroes, and Villains
Men, women, and events that have been overlooked in mainstream American history are the focus of this new multicultural collection. Engaging stories inform us about Americans who performed incredible deeds but have been ignored by traditional literature. Dozens of unsung heroes and unusual characters, from the first woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor to the black man who broke precedence to fire a gun during the attack on Pearl Harbor, take center stage in this intriguing work. The book also contains little-known facts about well-known personalities. A great supplement for American history classes, this book is fascinating reading for all ages.

Another reviewer said that the book is full of lies. I don't know about that because what I read of my cousin once-removed, (my mother's cousin and my grandmother's niece,) is 100% true and the full extent of Jonita Bonham's injuries (an Army/Air Force flight nurse) and her heroism is not portrayed fully. Her injuries were extensive and she was a quiet spoken lady who never told others of her ordeal unless asked and even then minimized what she went through and what she did. I do know Jonita was a true shero during the Korean war and one of her most heroic acts is chronicled in this book and it is absolutely 100% true. She was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for her valor, pinned on her p.j.'s while in the hospital - and they do not "just pass those out." I am glad someone is telling her story so that others may learn of true valor of some of our military personnel during war time. We hear lots of negatism through the media - heroism, loyalty and patriotism are no longer lauded or appreciated by many in today's world. Everyone has an opinion and if they do not know what they are talking about, they criticize and make snide remarks. Thank you for writing this book.
wow - the info that is put out there as history is appalling. This is just another huge distortion of historical facts. The ACTUAL history of characters like Anne Bonny & John Rackham are sensational enough without the lies as offered up here.
