This is my favorite book. Makes me want to get tight on absinthe and brandy and make questionable decisions. Hemingway also paints a great picture of fishing, the fiesta and the times of a writer in Paris. Every time I read this book it just makes me happy.

Drunks & losers & anti-semites. Yes, REAL subtle.
It reads like a cross between an amateur travelogue & a professional accident report. And, those are the GOOD parts.

A love story with natural (though unfair) emotions and feelings developing around it.

The greatest ending to a novel ever created. The characters are built beautifully as Hemingway uses his signature writing style to make the most immense details seem insignificant - and that is part of the beauty of this book: its subtlety is what sets this book apart from other novels, including his own. This is my favorite book of all time because, just as Steinbeck did for the Depression era, Hemingway captures 1920s Spain through his impeccable constructions of setting, character, and plot.
