About the author (2012)

Spencer C. Tucker, Ph.D., held the John Biggs Chair of Military History at the Virginia Military Institute and is Senior Fellow of Military History at ABC-CLIO. He served as an intelligence analyst and desk officer at the Pentagon during the Vietnam War and has written or edited 25 books, including ABC-CLIO's award-winning "The Encyclopedia of the World War I" and "The Encyclopedia of World War II".
