Louis D. Rubin, Jr., is professor of English at the University of North Carolina. He is author or editor of a dozen books, among them The Faraway Country: Writers of the Modern South and Thomas Wolfe: The Weather of His Youth. He is editor of the series Southern Literary Studies, published by the Louisiana State University Press.
