About the author (1997)

Tim Boland has a master's degree in botany from Michigan State University. His expertise is in native Michigan plants and in plant conservation.

Laura Coit is the former horticulturist at the Michigan State Horticulture Demonstration Gardens. She practiced her craft at the Royal Horticulture Society's garden in Wesley, England.

Marty Hair is an Advanced Master Gardener and journalist who has been a news and feature writer and editor at Michigan's largest newspaper, the "Detroit Free Press", since 1978. Her previously published articles are available on the "Detroit Free Pres" website at www.freep.com.
