It is only a preview, but the translation is wonderful, not for its accuracy but for its style. While Goethe is rightfully hailed as a masterful writer, this diary of his travels gets quite dry at times. Thankfully W.H. Auden and Elizabeth Mayer while doing a great job of translating also add some colorfulness to the language that helps make this text less of a chore. This is still not a book for persons new to Goethe, but for one who would like to tackle the book as an academic exercise, I'd say grab this translation and keep the original German as a reference. You'll thank yourself for it.
