Front Cover
Archiv des Kreises Warendorf, 1997 - History - 368 pages
A history of the Jews in Drensteinfurt from the early 19th century to 1941. Pp. 152-216 deal with the persecution of the Jews during the Nazi period: the gradual stages of discrimination, the implementation of the Nuremberg Laws, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, the Aryanization of Jewish property, emigration, and deportation. In 1928 the Jewish community consisted of 21 members; there is no data for 1933. Between 1933-39, 16 persons, including most of the Terhoch family, managed to emigrate to Uruguay. A deportation list of 1941 includes the names of 10 Jews from Drensteinfurt. Includes a report on the fate of Herta Herschcowitsch, who was deported to the Riga ghetto, and later to Stutthof, but survived; the fate of the other deportees is not known.
