About the author (1999)

Robin N. Gibson is an Honorary Research Fellow of the Scottish Association for Marine Science at the Dunstaffnage Marine Laboratory, Oban, Scotland.

Formerly a bilingual elementary teacher, Marianne is a free-lance writer who has also taught Spanish at the University of Louisville. She holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in Spanish and has completed writing courses with the Institute of Children's Literature. To date, her articles and short stories have appeared in Guide, Skipping Stones, and Highlights. She has written several books for children, including the novels Firebug and Over the Waves and the picture books Gullywasher Gulch and Maya Moon/Dona Luna. Marianne was born and raised in Arizona, and currently lives in Tuscon. Who am I? "I have been writing for kids for just two years now, but I have discovered a wonderful side effect: Writing for kids keeps me young! It also soothes my ragged nerves, calms my worries, and brings me hope for the future.
