Getting To The Other Side by Sharon Johnson Pond is a collection of devotional stories written about the years when the author, her husband, John, and their son, Marcus, served as missionaries in Central Africa.

The stories deal with the problems of learning different cultures and languages, finding a place of ministry and then losing that place, and the difficulties of trying to continue ministry in war conditions.

Getting To The Other Side is a combination devotional and story book, written by the person who actually experienced the events which happened during times of peace, but also during the tumultuous war years in both Rwanda and Burundi, Africa.

About the author

Sharon Johnson Pond is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia and now lives in Colerain, North Carolina.

As a preschool teacher of thirty years, Sharon wrote and implemented a multicultural curriculum for use in a preschool classroom. In the role of an Education Manager and Mentor-Coach, she has presented workshops on the state and national levels, and been invited to present at an international conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In Africa, Sharon taught English, homeschooled her son, Marcus, worked with pastors’ wives, and helped with the translating of Christian materials into Kirundi.

Sharon has written articles for several Baptist publications including Royal Service (currently Missions Mosaic), Tarheel Talks, and the May 2004 issue of Lifeway’s Journey devotional magazine.
