THE NIGHT CIRCUS

Editorial Review - Kirkus - Jane Doe

Self-assured, entertaining debut novel that blends genres and crosses continents in quest of magic. The world's not big enough for two wizards, as Tolkien taught us—even if that world is the shiny, modern one of the late 19th century, with its streetcars and electric lights and newfangled horseless carriages. Yet, as first-time novelist Morgenstern imagines it, two wizards there are, if likely ... Read full review

Review: The Night Circus

Editorial Review - Bookreporter.com - Norah Piehl

When I was at the BookExpo America publishing convention earlier this year, I kept bumping into the same fancifully attired young people. Dressed in elaborate blackandwhite costumes, they were handing out snacks advertising the forthcoming publication of Erin Morgenstern's THE NIGHT CIRCUS. I had never heard of the author, and when I learned that this was, in fact, her debut novel, I was even more ... Read full review

I'm not much of a reader of the magical and fantastical (well, aside from Harry Potter). It just doesn't usually strike me as all that appealing when I am browsing through book descriptions. I tend to ... Read full review

This was an enjoyable read. A little different than my typical books, but that is certainly not a bad thing. In fact, this is the only book I have read labeled 'Fantasy' that I would not hesitate to hand to anyone of my friends that do not read fantasy and say I think they would enjoy it. Read full review

I LOVED this book! It was recommended to me by many people, and one of my friends compared it to Water for Elephants, another book set in a circus, and so I knew that I had to read it.
I found the
beginning a little slow, I was unsure where the story would evolve to. Once Celia and Marco developed more of their talents, and the planning of the circus had begun I was very intrigued. With the development of the circus, and the inevitable love affair between Celia and Marco I was absolutely hooked. I never knew where the story was going to go and jumping from past to present was incredibly effective in drawing the reader in.
The descriptions of the circus were perfection, you really believed as though you were lost in this magical universe. The character development was where this book excelled, each character coming alive before my eyes, and many unexpected twists and turns as they age. While I could predict that Marco and Celia would have feelings for each other, I never could have predicted where that story line travelled to, and I was surprised by the ending, but very happy. I fell in love with this story and these characters, and I find myself reflecting on this beautiful story constantly! :)

Wonderful Novel!
