Care of the FetusAbstract: Obstetrical care of the fetus is explained to medical students, with the main emphasis placed on the fetus's well being. Traditionally, pregnancy has been viewed primarily as it affects the mother. However, throughout pregnancy the fetus has independent responses to external stimuli, nutrition, and diseases. Some studies even suggest that the fetus can be variously affected by sexual intercourse. Monitoring of fetal heart rates can suggest possible disorders and can determine if the fetus is in any immediate distress or danger. Other procedures such as aminocentesis can diagnose congenital defects in early pregnancy. Bibliography, protocols, and obstetrical data charts are included. |
