Toy tips: a parent's essential guide to smart toy choicesUser Review - Book Verdict
Toys aren't just for fun anymore--Szymanski, founder and president of Toy Tips Inc., claims that they will influence our children's social and moral development: "They are part of the everyday environment that will sculpt your child's imagination, character, and outlook on life." Here she attempts to train lay readers (moms and dads) to become toy experts, providing advice about dozens of different kinds of toys and insight gained from her "toy tips lab" research into the benefits, warnings, and developmental appropriateness of toys today. Szymanski also addresses special needs, health and safety, and shopping for toys. This book would help anyone who has a child, plays with a child, or ever needs to buy a gift for a child. It is similar to Stevanne Auerbach's Dr. Toy's Smart Play: How To Raise a Child with a High PQ but with an alternative format. Recommended for both public and academic libraries.--Kari Ramstrom, MLIS, Plymouth, MN

Picked this up at the library while waiting for story time to start. Quick read, learned a few useful things about choosing toys. This would have been a good resource when I was a new mother -- and would be a great book for a new grandparent, to help steer them toward smart gift choices.
