About the author (2005)

Keith Gilbert PhD is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Learning and Teaching for the School of Health Sciences at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He researches in the area of sport sociology and has a strong interest in qualitative and interpretive research methodology. He has numerous publications and has edited several books in the broad areas of sociology and cultural studies including: 'Extending the Boundaries: Theoretical Frameworks for Research in Sports Management', 'Some Like It Hot: The Beach as Cultural Dimension' & groundbreaking text on 'Islam and Sport'. He has been an Executive Board Member of the International Council of Sports Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) and is currently exploring interests in the realm of Olympic and Paralympics research
