THANKSGIVINGS.

After Childbirth.

To be said when any woman, being present in the Church, desires to return thanks to God after Childbirth:

O Almighty God, we give Thee humble thanks for that Thou hast vouchsafed to deliver from the peril of Childbirth this woman Thy servant, who desires to thank Thee for Thy goodness. Grant, we beseech Thee, most merciful Father, that she, through Thy help, may both faithfully live, and walk according to Thy will, in this life present; and also may be partaker of everlasting glory in the life to come: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Rain.

O God our Heavenly Father, who by Thy gracious providence causest rain to descend upon the earth, that it may produce its fruits: we humbly thank Thee because Thou hast vouchsafed to fertilise our fields with abundant rains to our comfort and Thy glory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Fair Weather.

O Lord God, who hast justly humbled us by Thy late visitation of us with immoderate rain and waters, etc., as in Anglican form.

For Plenty.

O most Merciful Father, who of Thy gracious goodness hast heard the devout prayers of Thy Church, and turned our dearth and scarcity into plenty, etc., as in Anglican form.

For Peace and Deliverance from our Enemies.

O Almighty God, who art a strong Tower of defence unto Thy servants against the face of their enemies; We yield Thee praise and thanksgiving for our deliverance from those great and apparent dangers wherewith we were compassed: beseeching Thee still to continue such Thy mercies towards us, that all the world may know that Thou art our Saviour and mighty Deliverer: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Deliverance from the Plague, or other common Sickness.

O Lord God, who hast consumed us for our transgressions, by Thy late heavy and dreadful visitation; and now, by Thy mercy, hast redeemed our souls from death; We offer unto Thy fatherly goodness ourselves, to be a living sacrifice unto Thee, always praising and magnifying Thy mercies in the midst of Thy Church: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Recovery from Sickness.

O God, who givest life and health, we bless Thy name because Thou hast vouchsafed to deliver from his sickness this Thy servant (or the child of this Thy servant), who now comes to return thanks in the presence of Thy people. Thou art merciful, O Lord, and full of compassion, towards the children of men. Grant that he, feeling Thy merciful goodness, may devote the rest of his days to a humble, holy, and obedient life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For a Safe Return from a Journey.

Most Gracious Lord, whose mercy is over all Thy works; We praise Thy Holy Name that Thou hast been pleased to conduct in safety, through the perils of his journey, this Thy servant, who now desireth to return his thanks unto Thee, in Thy Holy Church. May he be duly sensible of Thy merciful providence towards him, and ever express his thankfulness by a holy trust in Thee, and obedience to Thy laws: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

At the End of Harvest.

O Merciful Father, who hast blest the labours of the husbandman, we heartily thank Thee for this Thy mercy, which we in nowise deserved: and we pray Thee to continue it to us, fertilising our fields abundantly to Thy glory and our welfare: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE ORDER OF THE

ADMINISTRATION OF THE HOLY

COMMUNION,

Eucharist, or Lord's Supper.

When there shall be a celebration of the Lord's Supper, the Minister shall give notice of it during the services of the preceding Sunday.

¶ If the Minister has reasonable cause to suppose that any person, who is publicly and notoriously an evil liver, or who has wronged his neighbour, intends to come to the Holy Communion, he shall privately admonish him, that he in no wise presume to Communicate until he shall have given evident proof of repentance and amendment of life. The Minister shall deal in like manner with those persons between whom he perceives malice and hatred to reign; not permitting them to partake of the Holy Communion until he know them to be

reconciled. And if one of the parties be ready to pardon from his heart the other party, and promises amendment of his fault; and if the other party will not be reconciled or abandon' his malice and hatred, then the Minister shall admit the repentant person to the Holy Communion, but not him that is obstinate. But if any Minister, in conformity with this or the next preceding paragraph of this Rubric, refuses the Holy Communion to any one, he shall be obliged to give account thereof to the Ordinary within fifteen days.

No rule is laid down as regards the frequency with which the Holy Communion is to be celebrated. This is left to the discretion of the Ministers, who, however, will not fail to remember that in the primitive Church it was celebrated every Sunday.

The Lord's Table shall be placed in the chancel, either separated from or close to the wall, as circumstance may permit. At the time of the Communion, it shall be covered with a white and clean cloth, and upon it shall be placed the necessary quantity of pure bread and wine without mixture, all being covered with a white veil.

The Minister, near the table, either behind it or at the Gospel side, shall say, all standing:

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Ans. Amen.
