About the author (1993)

Ira Glasser was the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for almost a quarter of a century, from 1978 to 2001. Under his direction, the ACLU transformed from an understaffed and overworked nonprofit into an internationally recognized powerhouse. He currently serves as the president of the Board of Directors for the Drug Policy Alliance. He lives in New York City.

Bob Adelman is a well-known and respected photo-documentarian and book producer. His photographs have been in collections at the Museum of Modern Art and he has won the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and many other awards. He lives in Miami, Florida.
