I read The Truth in one sitting last summer and found myself wanting to take notes, but didn’t, knowing that I’d promptly lose them. In the succeeding months, I’ve referred back to the book several times and have easily found what I needed. It is laid out well, succinct, entertaining, insightful, thought provoking, and most importantly, useful. If you’re engaged with a nonprofit board either as a board member or as staff, you should read The Truth.
For the institution’s staff and executive leadership – learn how to attract, engage, and get the best from the board.
For the board member – learn how to be a more effective member.

Informed and succinct. Quite revealing through real stories and real quotes where board candidates have been asked to take part for the wrong reasons and all too often many of them have accepted positions for the wrong reasons. Great insight and usefulness as a primer for both the non profit executive who wants a "name" on the board as well as the neophyte board candidate who wants just to hobnob. Both are urged to look inward and move beyond self in order to serve the greater good....or else to move on.

About the author (2009)

June Bradham is founder, owner, and President of Corporate DevelopMint, a fundraising and strategic planning consulting firm for nonprofits. Having personally led and overseen a team that has led scores of fundraising campaigns with goals that have ranged from $2 million to over $1 billion, June has become a recognized leader in the creation of innovative, successful development efforts. She was also honored by the Charleston Regional Business Journal as one of 2008's Most Influential Women in Business as the CEO of the Year, a testament to the strength of her for-profit acumen as well as her successes leading nonprofits.
June writes a monthly column in the Business Journal and has had a number of articles selected for inclusion in numerous trade publications throughout the nonprofit industry. Each year, she is invited to be a key speaker at many organizations, including the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the American Marketing Association.
