After looking around the village, Elizabeti finds the perfect doll to love. She names her Eva. When Mama changes the new baby's diaper, Elizabeti changes Eva's. When Mama sings to the baby, Elizabeti sings to Eva. And one day when Eva turns up lost, Elizabeti realizes just how much she loves her special doll.

About the author (1998)

After living on Midway Atoll in the center of the Pacific Ocean for nearly three years, Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen now lives in the state of Washington, not far from Mount St. Helens. Stephanie is a faculty member of the Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA program there, and she is the author of several widely-reviewed and award-winning books that have become favorites of parents, librarians, and teachers.

CHRISTY HALE has illustrated numerous picture books, including the award-winning Elizabeti series, published by Lee & Low, and has authored two picture books as well. As an art educator, Hale has written about artists for Instructor magazine's Masterpiece of the Month feature and

workshops. She lives with her family in Palo Alto, California.
