Ito Family Farm, Guadalupe Valley, Santa Maria, CA (1930's? & earlier) - Chitaro, Ken, Charley, Tom, Sam, Albert, Ted, John; sisters-Kimiko, Dorothy
Near SM River bed & downslope of the SM coastal hills, near Sugar Beet Factory
For the casual viewer, most of the Crawler Cats seem altogether one large powerful bunch.
For me, the son and grandson of pre-WWII Santa Maria Valley (Guadalupe, Betteravia) farms,
from the early (perhaps, even late 1890's) 1900's, especially the period of 1925-1940, the Caterpillar
Model RD6 (l935-1937< we owned two) seemed like the golden age of farming. The Ito Farm also
had at least 1 (one) Oliver Super 70,77?) narrow row-cropper for orchards and narrow crop rows.
As my dad often called us (me and my brothers, born in the l950's).... "city slickers", I cannot expect to
have a first-hand experience with these wonder machines, but on;y what I have read, and ONLY after
the advent of the Internet, long after my father and grandfathers had passed on.
I can only write what my father, and certain uncles had told me, as I was growing up in Los Angeles. Our Families did visit Santa Maria often, when I was very young (<10), we lived the family that eventually built the Pioneer Stereo Co, and the Mikasa Fine Chinaware Company (Furukawa"s, as my father know them well).
