About the author (2002)

Gerry Souter attended the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago. He has worked as an art teacher, a security guard, a rifle instructor, and a seaman in the Merchant Marine. He and his wife, Janet, have authored or coauthored more than forty nonfiction books in the areas of history, biography, young adult, art, military history, business, and the Internet. Recent titles include "The Chicago Air and Water Show: A History of Wings above the Waves" (2010), "The Vietnam War Experience" (2008), and "Military Rifles Fierce Firepower" (2006). They live near Chicago.

Janet Souter shares her husband Gerry's interest in history. She is president of their company, Avril 1 Group, Inc., and edits all of their joint copy. Janet has joined Gerry in balloon, helicopter and light aircraft flights. They are authors of over forty books--histories, biographies and young adult nonfiction. Their most recent book, written for The History Press, is titled Arlington Heights: A Brief History.
