A sweeping family saga, set against the backdrop of the then South West Africa, in the late 40s to early 70s, depicting its people, customs and cultures. After her father shoots himself by accident, Annushka calls her new stepfather Daddy David. David and the child grow to love each other deeply. On her return from overseas, David and Annushka realize they are in love, and plan to marry after David obtains a divorce from her mother. While overseas once again, Annushka hears nothing from David, then receives a short letter from him saying that he is not coming. She rushes home to learn that David stabbed her mother to death, and has been incarcerated in a home for the criminally insane. She finds a catatonic shell of the man, whom she had been devoted to almost all her life. Unable to get through to him, and after his sudden and inexplicable death, Annushka travels to America, where she meets a gigolo, who starts her on drugs at her insistence. A man that had fallen in love with her during a sojourn in Paris brings her home. Anton 'rescues' her from Victor, who was only trying to help her. Annushka eventually recovers and marries Anton. They have a happy marriage, complete with a son, Rudi, who on his sixth birthday, brings about the uncovering the family's tragic secret.About the Author: Karin Macik was born in 1938 in the then South West Africa.
