About the author (2007)

Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI, was born on April 16, 1927 in Germany and grew up in the small village of Traunstein. He studied at the Higher School of Philosophy and Theology of Freising and at the University of Munich from 1946 to 1951. He received his priestly ordination and in 1953 earned a doctorate in theology.
