As much as I enjoy the work of Robert Graves I do think the Iliad is better translated into verse. This prose translation is admirable though and funny in parts.

I can't help wondering why this particular translation of the Iliad has gone so out of favour. I continue to find it one of the better prose translations and certainly one that offers an immediacy that means this nearly 3000 year-old epic is always relevant. Read full review
