The aim of this paper is to examine how far issues of social responsibility have found their way into international investment agreements (IIAs). Such provision seem to be increasing, especially in relation to labour, the environment and consumer protection, however there are a number of other areas that can be included. The first section defines the boundaries of social responsibility and the second analyses existing provisions. Section three looks at the interaction between social responsibility and other IIA issues, whilst the conclusion outlines policy options for negotiators.
