Pragmatic Theology: Negotiating the Intersections of an American Philosophy of Religion and Public Theology
Anderson (Christian ethics, Vanderbilt U.) projects a vision of religious life that is derived from the tradition of American pragmatism, empirical theology, and the American philosophy of religion. He argues that there is a divine reality in human experience that, when encountered, gives meaning and value to people's need for cultural fulfillment and their religious need for self-transcendence. He commends the transformation and growth of both individuals and communities toward a society in which democratic utopian expectations are visualized and manifested.
