About the author (1980)

Lisa Birnbach is an award-winning broadcaster and author. Lisa graduated from Brown University and went to work at The Village Voice, where she co-wrote the ''Scenes'' column. Birnbach accepted an offer from Workman Publishing to write a book on preppies. The book, The Official Preppy Handbook, became a bestseller and Lisa quickly became a media darling. Birbach began writing for such high-profile publications as Glamour, TV Guide, and Rolling Stone. She also went on a college lecture tour and put her vast knowledge of college life to use when she wrote Lisa Birnbach's College Book. Lisa went on to be a consultant on the classic film, Dead Poets Society. In the '90s, she began writing comedy for television and cable specials. Between all of this she found the time to write or co-write 20 books. Birnbach is a contributing editor at Parade magazine and is co-creator and co-host of Zero Hour on ABC-TV and co-writer of the off-Broadway revue, Loose Lips.
