I found the pictures told the story more powerfully than the words. Ending seems a bit contrived.

OK book to discuss riots, and it can lead into more discussion about economics that may cause people to riot.

This story is about a boy who sees a riot going on outside his apartment building. He talks about a lady that owns a market on their street that has a cat whom he does not like. He and mama go to sleep but are woken up by a loud knock on their door. There is a fire in their apartment building! The boy can not find his cat Jasmine and he and mama go to a shelter. At the shelter, the lady that owns the market cannot find her can as well. Later, a fireman comes with the two cats in his arms. The cats are very friendly now and the boy says, maybe they didn't know each other before, but now they do, meaning the cats had been through a lot together and now they have something in common. This story relates to social justice because it deals with making judgments and realizing that people have more in common than we think.

This is a story about cats and people who couldn't get along until a night of rioting brings them all together.
