About the author (2004)

Chris Oxlade has worked as a writer and editor on more than 70 books, generally in the field of science and technology, but also in the subject area of sports and hobbies. After gaining a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1983, he has written mainly for children but occasionally for the adult market. His general interests include cricket, rock climbing and photography. Chris's published works include The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary of Science (Usborne), The Ancient Olympics (Heinemann), Wheels, Wings and Water (Raintree), DK Picture Atlas (Dorling Kindersley) and Great Inventions That Shaped The World (Lorenz Books).
