Review: Make room! Make room!
Editorial Review - Kirkus ReviewsThe year is 1999. The population has exploded. Manhattan Island is sinking under the weight of 35,000,000 bodies. Civilization is in a Welfare State and the daily bread is a seaweed cracker. In this year before the new century things get worse as we follow the adventures of a various assortment of characters: a dedicated cop, his girl from the Upper Classes who is content to live on love, a resourceful young Chinese hood, a demented Doomsday preacher and a wise old man who tells us, if we hadn't guessed, what the book is all about-- birth control. The message works, parts of the plot don't. But it's one of Harrison's best.

User Review - Jim - GoodreadsA most interesting read, not at all like I remember the movie "Soylent Green". I'm going to have to watch it again to refresh my memory. The overwhelming message of the book is over population. The origin of "Soylent Green" is never mentioned. Read full review
