New Jersey novelist Alan Saperstein uses ordinary events to probe darker motivations. His first novel, Mom Kills Kids and Self won the 1979 Hemingway Award for Best First Fiction. Another work, Camp, uses the rituals of children's summer camp to explore innocence and evil.
