The old man and the Medal, a book about a certain old man that goes by the name Meka, a native of a certain village under colonial rule. Meka is to be given a medal by the colonial masters for his cooperation; Meka gave up his land for the erection of the church, and he also gave his two sons to serve in the military where they both got killed. So in view of this his colonial masters decided to honour him with a medal, thus making a celebrity out of Meka. The days preceding the awarding of the medal to Meka saw his relatives and friends from nearby villages come into Meka's village in preparation for the event. Despite the heavy preparations made by Meka and the other villagers, the euphoria was shortlived and sooner than later Meka got to see the true colour of the white man.
