Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer (Google eBook)
In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he’s only thirteen years old, Theo Boone thinks he’s one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk—and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom.
But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much—maybe too much—he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial. A cold-blooded killer is about to go free, and only Theo knows the truth.
The stakes are high, but Theo won’t stop until justice is served.

Review: Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer #1User Review - Christianbook.com
I like the story. It kept my interest and I liked the characters and the mystery. For a young person that is reading this it explained court processes very well. I would not start 8 yr olds with this though. Maybe 10 & up. Theodore's uncle smokes and drinks and as a joke the uncle offers Theo a beer or Sprite.(Theo is in middle school). This part bothers me. Of course, Theo accepts the Sprite. The author also brings up the subject of battered women and shelters and other subjects that an 8 yr old (3/4grade) really doesn't need to read. This area could have been left out and the story would still have been good. So, overall review is good. I purchased the book for my church library and read all youth/young adult books for the content. I like almost all of the book, it is just the touchy topics that some parents may want to be aware of. John Grisham is an excellant adult author. He is capable of writing a book for youth that is exciting and suspensful w/o smoking, drinking and the like.
I am only 30 pages into this book but it already has me enthralled. This book grasped my attention right from the start. BO
