A wonderful "first" field guide, this is great for children. The information is well written for children, the illustrations are good and it tells you how to find the insects as well as some of their habits, needs and the way they contribute to the environment. Read full review
This guide is particularly suitable for kindergarten student, but the recommended age group is 9-12. Some activities are also suitable for six to seven years old children. This book is an invitation to young naturalists who wants to spot wildlife and gives basic information about insects, caterpillars, and butterflies. The book also includes identification information, educational activities, and fun facts. Safety tips are also provided. Color illustrations have enhanced the presentation. Interesting facts about when and where you are most likely to observe each species worth appreciation. Interesting facts about each species is written in different font and color at the bottom of the page. “Make Moth Sugar” includes a recipe, an attractive treat to attract moths. The how to pages, tomato hornworm, banded woolly bear caterpillar and ladybug sections are excellent.
