About the author (1971)

Stancu began his literary career as a poet. During the 1930s he was active as a journalist and edited such periodicals as Azi (Today) and Lumea romaneasca (Rumanian World). After World War II he published a cycle of novels that won him official recognition. He was president of the Rumanian Writers' Union from 1965 until his death.
