About the author (2001)

Jewel Kilcher was raised in Alaska and began performing for Anchorage's locals and tourists at the age of six. Her first album, Pieces of You, went eleven times platinum, making it one of the top five bestselling albums of all time by a female artist. Her first collection of poetry, A Night Without Armor, made the New York Times bestseller list. She and her mother have also established a non-profit, humanitarian organization called Higher Ground for Humanity, dedicated to inspiring positive change on global, community, and individual levels. Jewel lives in California.
