DAW Books, 2007 - Fiction - 480 pages
The penultimate instalment in Katharine Kerr's bestselling fantasy series. "A dagger laid against our throat." So Prince Dar of the Westlands calls Zakh Gral, a new fortress built by the Horsekin, the ancient enemies of his people. To help him destroy this threat, the elven prince has called upon his allies: the dwarven folk of the northern mountains and the human men of Deverry to the east. Their leaders know that if the Westlands fall to the Horsekin, their own throats will feel that dagger next. Joining them are two powerful dragons, who have their own bitter reasons to hate the Horsekin. But the fanatical Horsekin believe that they have the most powerful ally of all: a new goddess. Alshandra's priestesses have announced that she has given the Horsekin the lands belonging to the prince -- and that his people must be utterly destroyed. Rooted in Celtic mythology and intricately interweaving human and elven history over several hundred years, Katharine Kerr's dazzling saga tells of ancient enmities and undying friendships experienced through many lives. Epic fantasy on a truly grand scale.

Review: The Spirit Stone (Silver Wyrm, #2) & (Deverry #13)

User Review - Goodreads

Good, but I really felt like the whole taking down of Zakh Gral was pretty anticlimactic. I guess I expected more.

About the author (2007)

Katharine Kerr was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1944. After dropping out of Stanford University in the mid-1960s, Kerr worked in a number of low-paying jobs, including a stint at the U.S. Post Office. In 1976, a friend gave Kerr her first fantasy role-playing game and she became so intrigued with both gaming and the fantasy field that she began writing articles for gaming magazines. After working as a contributing editor for Dragon Magazine, as well as contributing to gaming modules for both TSR, Inc., and Chaos, Inc., Kerr turned her attention exclusively to fiction writing. Kerr is best known for her historical fantasy Deverry Series novels, published by Bantam and HarperCollins. Titles include Daggerspell, Darkspell, Dawnspell: The Bristling Wood, and Dragonspell: The Southern Sea. Kerr also developed The Westlands Cycle series for HarperCollins. Among the titles of some of those novels are A Time to Exile, A Time of Omens, and Days of Blood and Fire. Some of Kerr's other science fiction novels include Polar City Blues, Palace, and Freeze Frames and she has also edited three short-story anthologies.
