Overview
This Privacy Policy applies to the Google Book Search Copyright Settlement Website. This website provides information about the Google Book Search Copyright Settlement and is hosted by the Google Book Search Copyright Settlement Administrator (Rust Consulting, Inc.), with technical support and hosting provided by Google Inc.
This website collects contact information you submit for the purpose of sending you an official Court-approved Notice of Class Action Settlement and other Settlement updates. Only Rust Consulting, the Book Rights Registry, Class Counsel and Google (collectively, "we"), will have access to information collected by this website. The information collected will be held in strict confidence and used in accordance with this Privacy Policy for the purposes described below.
At this time, we are not requesting any information related to your membership in the Settlement Class, your Settlement claim, or your interest in a Book or Insert. Before we ask for any Settlement claim related information, this Privacy Policy will be amended, including with respect to the collection and use of that information. Once the Notice is approved by the Court, please check this page to review the amended policy.
How we collect and use your information
For the purpose of providing you with information about the Settlement and administering this website, we may collect the following types of information:
- Information you provide – When you sign up to receive the Notice of Class Action Settlement and any further information on the Settlement, we ask you for personal information (such as your name, email address and/or mailing address) so that we can send you the official Court-approved Notice of Class Action Settlement and update you on the Settlement if the Court gives its preliminary approval. When you send email or other communications to us, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our settlement administration services.
- Cookies – When you visit this website, we send one or more cookies – a small file containing a string of characters – to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. We use cookies to measure the number of unique visitors to this website as well as to store user language preferences. We will not associate cookies with the personal information you provide to this website.
- Log information – When you access the website, our servers automatically record information sent by your browser. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request, and information from cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
We only use personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
We process personal information on our servers in the United States of America and in other countries. In some cases, we process personal information on a server outside your own country. We may share with the Court in which the Settlement is pending certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information, such as the number of users who visited this website. Any such information will not identify you individually. We may also share information with third parties when we have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request; or (b) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, as required or permitted by law.
