Book List Upload Instructions

Print

You can upload multiple books to your account at one time by using a spreadsheet. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Books account at http://books.google.com/partner/login.
  2. Click the Add Books link.
  3. Click the Using a spreadsheet link.
  4. Download the spreadsheet from the MS Excel link.
  5. Fill out a row for each book you'd like to add to your account. Explanations of each column are listed below.
  6. Once you have finished adding your books, save the spreadsheet to your hard drive.
  7. Return to the Add Books page, and locate your saved spreadsheet using the Browse button. It will be uploaded automatically, and the books will appear on the Books tab of your account.

Unless noted, all of the following fields are required to properly upload a book to your account.

Enter your ISBN:

  • Under Column B, enter your books' ISBNs. Please make sure to remove all dashes and spaces from your ISBNs. At this time, we can only accept titles with valid ISBNs that are 10 or 13 characters long.
  • Please note that if an ISBN begins with a zero, the leading zero may be removed by your spreadsheet program. This is fine and your book settings list will upload correctly.
  • For more information on obtaining an ISBN for your title, please visit www.isbn.org.

Enter your Title:

  • Under Column C, enter your books' full title, including any subtitles.

Enter the Author's Name:

  • Under Column D, enter the full author and/or editor names, separated by commas (eg. Jane Smith, John Doe).

Enter your Territorial Rights:

Your books will be shown to users in countries in which you have territorial rights. Under Column G, please specify your territorial rights as follows:

  • Worldwide rights - enter the word all in Column G.
  • Limited countries - enter the two-letter country code for each country in which you have rights. Use commas to separate each country code. Country codes are listed here. For example: If you have rights in the US, United Kingdom, and Canada, enter: us,gb,ca
  • Most countries - enter all followed by the two-letter country code for countries in which you do not have rights. Use commas to separate each country code. For example: If you have rights to all countries except Canada, enter: all,ca
  • You can leave this field blank in order to inherit the default settings that you've specified in your account.

Enter your Buy Link (optional):

Each excerpt page contains links to your title at major online booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Booksense, and your own commerce site if you wish. We will automatically add the links to your title at the major online booksellers, and you do not need to provide them. However, to include your own commerce site, please insert the appropriate URL in Column H.

  • Please note that the Buy Link should lead to the specific web page from which a user may purchase your title. Also note that you cannot link to 3rd party merchant sites, either as an affiliate or non-affiliate.
  • The URL provided in the template is just an example of a site that might be used as a Buy Link; your site's URL does not need to strictly adhere to this formatting. Include the active link on your web page from which users can purchase your title.
  • If you do not have your own commerce site, you may provide the URL to your publisher's website or leave this space blank.
  • You can also leave this field blank in order to inherit the default settings that you've specified in your account.

Specify Book Search settings (optional):

  • Under Column E, you can specify the percentage of your content that you'd like to make browsable on Google Books. Please note that this figure must be at least 20, and should also be a multiple of 10.
  • Under Column F, you can choose whether or not you'd like to display images in the book you're uploading. Specify "+" or "-" to indicate this preference.
  • You can leave either of these fields blank in order to inherit the default settings that you've specified in your account.
