About the author (2016)

Mary Ellen Renna, MD, FAAP, started her career after graduating from New York University School of Medicine in 1986. She is board certified in pediatrics and also carries a certification as a Physician Nutrition Specialist. She has spent her career in private practice and has devoted her life to the well-being of children.
She is regularly called upon to appear on television as a medical expert on various pediatric topics. Appearances include "The Today Show," "Fox & Friends," WPIX s morning show, "Good Day New York," and "Long Island Talks."
Dr. Renna has published two books, "Growing Up Healthy the Next Generation Way" and "Medical Truths Revealed." She has authored many articles on pediatric medicine and was a regular contributor to Woodbury Magazine.
Her active interest in combating the obesity epidemic led her to become a spokesperson for Apple & Eve s health program for children, with her face appearing on millions of juice bottles. Currently Dr. Renna works with several brands marketed for children, including Earth s Best, that strives to offer healthy options for children as they grow. She is also the spokesperson for RX Safes, a company that manufactures devices used to help minimize drug abuse from prescription medications.
She has received multiple awards for her work as a pediatrician, including an award from the foundation Autism Speaks, the Cooley Anemia Foundation Humanitarian of the Year, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation Humanitarian of the Year, Compassionate Doctor Award, AAP Education Award, and the Stony Brook Education Award. She was recognized as a leading professional in the Long Island Top 50 Most Inf luential Women in Business.
Dr. Renna is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has three grown children and continues her private practice in Jericho, New York.
