About the author (1991)

David Small is the Caldecott Award-winning illustrator of "So You Want to Be President?" by Judith St. George. He received a Caldecott Honor medal for "The Gardener" by Sarah Stewart. He has also illustrated many other beloved picture books, which include "The Library" and "The Journey, " both by Sarah Stewart, and "Imogene's Antlers, " which he also wrote. He lives in Michigan with his wife, Sarah Stewart.

Maggie Jaffe is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently CONTINUOUS PERFORMANCE: THE SELECTED POEMS OF MAGGIE JAFFE (Red Dragonfly Press, 2014), and FLIC(K)S: POETIC INTERROGATIONS OF AMERICAN CINEMA (Red Dragonfly Press, 2010). Her books 7TH CIRCLE (Cedar Hill Books, 2003) and THE PRISONS (Cedar Hill Books, 2001) won the San Diego Book Award for Poetry. She teaches at San Diego State University in the English and Comparative Literature Department. She is also the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and a California Arts Council Grant.
