A Book of Shadows
Poetry. Distinguished poet-translator William I. Elliott and his colleague at Kanto Gakuin University, Alan Botsford Saitoh, both residents of Japan, team up to create this scintillating and diverse collection of reflections on modern life. Elliottis the longtime coeditor of Poetry Kanto, a bilingual journal published in Japan, and a cowinner of the American Book Award. Botsford was a 2001 Pushcart Prize nominee. A sample: "the world doesn't ask/to be bookmarked, it asks/to be read, /admitting what is there/where horizontal & vertical/meet the depths/ on the surfaces of things, /the reality of appearances/saved (don't worry, not lost)/by you who/are choking back/the lion's logo, swallowing/instead/a lion's share/ of your shadow"
