About the author (2010)

Barbara H. Grider grew up in Philadelphia. She spent her childhood summers at the Jersey Shore. Graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in English. Barbara moved with her husband William, to Fort Lauderdale, in 1953 and spent many happy days on the famous beach with her son, Richard. Richard collected every sort of marine creature that could be found. The story reflects about those happy day-dreamy days on the beach in the late 50's and 60's. Barbara wrote this story and tucked it away to be discovered decades later in 1990 by her daughter, Kim. As a surprise anniversary gift, Kim had the story illustrated by famed South Jersey naturalist artist Kathy Johnston, who created a series of original watercolors. Barbara continued to write for her family until she passed away in June, 2000.
