Based on a true story, A REVERSAL OF FORTUNE depicts the struggle of a successful, level-headed lawyer and his new free-spirited, unpredictable wife in adjusting to their recent marriage, coping with their law firm, facing the economic hardships of the current recession, and eventually losing everything. In his clear, conversational style, the author begins his story where his debut novel, THREE WEEKS IN ITALY, ended. Although reading his first novel is entirely unnecessary to understand his recent work, the author continues the story of Doug and Gianna Steele after their tumultuous honeymoon in Italy. Returning home to an affluent lifestyle, Gianna decides to join Doug's law firm and eventually experiences a betrayal that leads to disastrous events. The reader will follow the main characters as they desperately attempt to survive through the morass of evictions, sub-prime borrowing, foreclosures, unemployment, bad credit, law suits, and despair. After the devastation, Gianna moves back into her mother's home and Doug ends up in a trailer park. Stripped of their material possessions, they soon discover a hidden treasure in their relationship which leads them to redemption and a new life together.

INTRIGUING, TIMELY STORY BASED ON A TRUE STORY
A Reversal of Fortune is based on an incredible true story about a successful attorney who ends up losing everything due to a devastating betrayal. It
details the events that caused the main characters (Doug and Gianna) to lose their lavish lifestyle. Additionally, it goes into how Doug and Gianna cope with their new "no frills" life and exactly how it changes their relationship. It is scary to imagine what this couple went through seeing their former wealthy lifestyle dissipate and to understand what led to their economic downfall. Since I am a pet lover, I liked the fact that it covers how the couple interacts with their pets and how the economic downturn affects them. I particularly enjoyed the end of the book, but I'll be nice and not give it away.
The novel is very timely given the current economic climate AND the number of people these days that are facing economic ruin. I found the story of exactly how the main characters went from affluence to poverty particularly engaging. Also, the novel gives readers insight into the Hollywood Hills lifestyle and the ultimate decimation of it. Once I started reading the book, it gripped me and wouldn't let go!
I recommend this book to everyone. It is well written, suspenseful, and puts you right in the middle of the action. I especially like the fact the author doesn't drown you with excessive descriptions or wordiness.
This is a great book to read at the beach or curled up on a rainy weekend since it's such a quick read. The author's smooth-flowing, conversational writing style is refreshing and is different than authors who fill the pages with confusing, metaphorical tangents.
I couldn't put the book down. I was dying to find out what happened to the two main characters after so much devastation and, being a woman, I kept wondering if the couple's marriage could possibly endure the many traumatic twists and turns.
Get this book and find out for yourself. You'll really enjoy its many insights.
