In 1974 I had a similar kind of testicular cancer as John Baker, but thank God I found a doctor, after consulting with 2 who ignored the problem, who sent me to a specialist and after two aggressive surgeries and radioactive cobalt treatments, was cured of the cancer. I love running and after lettering in Track in High School, and taking a long hiatus, began competition again by entering several area road races in the '80's. I found the courage and determination of John Baker exceptional and potentially inspirational to any athlete, coach, teacher, or counselor. I first read the condensed version many years ago. I couldn't put it down. The same is true with the book. It is a well developed, holistic view of one person's devotion to life physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
This is Far the best book I have ever read!!! It is inspirational to all people to never anything get you down in any situation especially me that I'm in track it shows me never to give up. I started tearing when John was in so much pain. Yes I'm a guy. its taught me so much. This is a good book to share with family, friends and athletes that no barrier can stop what you like doing best. May John Baker Live Forever and never be forgotten!
