This is a wonderful reference work for those interested in recreating the look of historic costume, or ethnic dress from 100 years ago. Each garment is shown in a watercolor line-drawing illustration, most of the time accompanied by a rendering that shows the number and shape of various pattern pieces needed to construct the garment.

A typical early 20th century "history of costume" survey. Valuable for choosing a time/place for a persona, but worse than useless for designing garb. 13th century women's clothing is identified as 12th century, and is (to be generous) imaginatively drawn. Read full review
