About the author (2008)

Josefina J. Card, PhD, is Founder, President, and CEO of Sociometrics Corporation, an applied social science research and development (R&D) company based in Los Altos, CA. Dr. Card is a nationally recognized social scientist and an expert in the establishment and operation of research-based social science resources, products and services. She has served as Principal Investigator of over 70 research-to- practice R&D projects, most of them funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Card has also devoted a significant portion of her career to facilitating the development and scientific evaluation of social intervention programs. She has served as a member of many federal advisory committees, including the NIH (National Institutes of Health) Study Section for Social Sciences and Population, the NICHD (National Institute on Child Health and Human Development) Population Research Committee, and the NICHD Advisory Council.

Currently Dr. Card, a native of the Philippines, is working with Pathways Philippines and with the Ayala Foundation USA to raise funds to allow outstanding graduates of Philippine public high schools to go to college.

Tabitha Benner, MPA, is a Research Associate at Sociometrics Corporation, and currently the project director of two projects related to STI/HIV/AIDS prevention for at-risk youth and/or adults: Program Archive on Sexuality, Health and Adolescence (PASHA) and Computer-Based HIV Prevention Interventions for African-American Women (SAHARA).
